Taking pride in his work

We are all very proud of the work we are doing.
Sammy has discovered the joy of the outdoors through a horticulture program at Learn Local provider, Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
“There are 14 of us in the Taster Course in Horticulture and we are all very proud of the work we are doing.”
The horticulture program at Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre incorporates a wide range of hands-on gardening activities.
“We have fixed Kew Cemetery. At first, we were supervised but now we know how to propagate plants, pull weeds, put down newspaper to prevent weeds growing again and use mulch.”
Sammy loves the experience and teamwork involved in building and regenerating garden settings.
“The garden is very beautiful again. We have all grown in confidence and in skills and made new friends, and we have a lot of fun.”
Horticulture tutor – Su
“I’m a qualified special needs teacher as well as a horticulturist. The most inspiring part of my job is seeing learners beginning to believe in themselves, believing that they can have a go at something and succeed. That success always breeds success, develops confidence and the knowledge ‘I can do this’. I’m always blown away by that.”
