Kensington Neighbourhood House was established in 1975 as a meeting place for the community and its various groups. Today they offer a range of adult education, art & hobby, social, children’s activities, childcare and health and wellbeing programs.
Kensington is a culturally diverse community. Thirty eight per cent of its residents were born overseas and thirty one per cent of residents don’t speak English at home. As a Learn Local organisation, they respond to community need by offering English as a Second Language and Digital Literacy.
One of their more successful pre-accredited courses in the last couple of years is the English for Heavy Vehicle Truck Licence course. This course prepares men from non-English-speaking backgrounds to sit the written test for a Medium Rigid driver’s licence. To date they have achieved a 100% success rate with over 30 men gaining their licence.
