Young man in a wheelchair with his teacher

21st century learning

The course has brought me into the twenty-first century.

When Martyn started a learning program at Echuca Neighbourhood House, he really just wanted to update his resume. But learning has opened up a whole new world for him.

“I joined the Learn Local Creative Writing class to help polish my resume but I got so much more.”

The creative writing class gave Martyn skills in public speaking and offered plenty of opportunities for social interaction.

“The class introduced me to a broad range of people, all with unique stories.”

Echuca Neighbourhood House offered wheelchair access for Martyn, as well as an inclusive classroom atmosphere.

“The class … has helped me with social media, bringing me into the twenty-first century.”

“I came to Echuca Neighbourhood House, a Learn Local provider, to teach just one term. That was nearly five years ago and I loved it so much I’m still here. It’s amazing to be on profound journeys with students as they find their voice, experiment with writing, change direction, discover new perspectives and gain confidence. I’ve seen students of all ages – from their 20s to their 80s – grow and blossom. This is life-changing stuff.”
