Learning to be yourself

Samantha wants everyone to know that having a disability doesn’t need to hold you back from further study or finding a job.
“I want to become a teacher. Probably a teacher for deaf people.”
A work education program at a Local Learn provider is helping Samantha to reach this goal.
This program helps people prepare for employment by providing them with employability skills and the knowledge they need to get and keep a job, or take on further study.
Samantha has been in doing this course for six months now. In that time she has experienced work placements and is getting a taste of the different types of jobs available to her. She is learning lots of new life skills as well as getting career advice.
“The teachers are nice. The helpers are nice and its a good place to be. Here I don’t have to be scared to ask for help. I can be me. I don’t have to act like someone else for people to understand me.”
